“Often, people think they can treat you carelessly and have the audacity to try and call you a friend afterwards. In my case, this someone was an ex. I’ve learnt that self-respect and knowing what’s best for you are so much more important than letting your emotions allow the wrong kind of people to stay in your life,” says Shanleigh.

The realisation only came after Shanleigh had finished penning the song. It was a hard lesson to learn, but I got a pretty cool song out of it. She hopes We’re Not Friends will empower others to recognise their self-worth and determine who can call them a friend.
