Sammy White—
North Queensland artist, Sammy White, returns to her roots with a stripped back vintage country sound on her new release, Good Old Case of Bad Luck.
Throwing back to the early sounds of Kacey Musgraves, The Chicks, and, more locally, Gina Jeffreys and Melinda Schneider, the song was co-written by Sammy and Nashville based Aussie hitmaker, Phil Barton, and produced by ARIA winner, Matt Fell.
The song’s narrative leans into small-town life, good karma and the idea that being a good neighbour always comes back around. “Everybody knows everybody in a small town, so if you’re gonna stir the pot, don’t be surprised when it comes back and bites you,” says Sammy.
Good Old Case of Bad Luck includes a dash of Sammy’s sass and wit along with good old-fashioned storytelling mixed with the modern sound for which she has become well known.
Sammy has been writing songs since she was 12. A mixture of home truths and contemporary country embellished from traditional roots is at the heart of her sound. In 2020, she was crowned Toyota Star Maker Winner, the event that launched the careers of acts including Keith Urban, Max Jackson, Lee Kernaghan, Kaylee Bell and Wade Forster. She was also a nominee for New Talent of the Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar Awards. In recent years, she has toured Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe.
