Matt Scullion’s new single Aussie As celebrates the things that make Australia what it is: nippers on the beach, a footy on the roof and a hundred different cultures all rolled into one. The idea for the track was conceived at an Anzac Day service after a long stint living overseas. “I’d been wanting to write a song about growing up in Australia,” says Scullion, “and being back on home soil was all the inspiration I needed.”
Matt has been nominated for seven Golden Guitars and two APRA Awards, and Aussie As marks an exciting new stage of his journey. Lee Kernaghan describes Matt as being “like lighting a fire and having someone pour gasoline all over it—he’s just full of ideas and innovation.”
When it came time to record, Shane Nicholson was always the first choice for producer. “I’d worked with him on my previous release,” says Scullion, “and I was in awe of his talents.” Both Matt’s and Shane’s talents are on full show, with beautifully layered guitars, a string quartet and seven-time Golden Guitar winner Lyn Bowtell on backing vocals making Aussie As a stunning snapshot of Australia.
